Buying the Right Flagpole
What’s the difference between a residential and a commercial flagpole?
Residential flagpoles are designed for home display with practical, homeowner-friendly hardware. Commercial flagpoles are engineered for higher wind loads, heavier flags, public-facing sites, and long-term duty cycles. If your site is exposed, coastal, or you want a true heavy duty flagpole, choose commercial-grade.
Best next step: browse Commercial Flagpoles or request a Flagpole Quote.
Which flagpole type is best: telescoping, wall-mounted, or in-ground?
Telescoping flagpoles are great for quick raising and lowering without ropes. Wall-mounted poles work well for porches and storefronts with limited space. In-ground aluminum flagpoles (residential or commercial) are the classic “forever” option for maximum stability and presence.

Do you sell American-made flagpoles and flags?
Yes. Liberty Flagpoles focuses on flags and flagpoles made in the USA. If “American flag made in America” is the goal, you’re in the right place.

Flagpole Height, Flag Size, and Fit
What size flag do I need for my flagpole?
A good rule: the flag length should be about 1/4 to 1/3 of the pole height for balanced display. Bigger looks great, but in windy areas a slightly smaller flag reduces strain and extends flag life.
If you tell us your pole height and exposure (calm vs open/windy), we’ll recommend the best fit. Use the Flagpole Quote page if you want a precise recommendation.
How tall should a flagpole be for a house?
Most homes look best with a 20–25 ft flagpole, depending on roofline and setback. If you want the flag clearly above the roofline, choose taller. If you’re in a tight neighborhood, 15–20 ft can look clean and proportional.

Wind Ratings and Heavy Duty Specs
What makes a flagpole “heavy duty”?
“Heavy duty” means the pole is built for higher loads: thicker wall, larger base diameter, stronger hardware, and engineering that matches wind exposure. For commercial applications, the details matter: wall thickness, butt diameter, foundation requirements, and the right flag size.
If you want a true heavy duty flagpole for an exposed site, request a Flagpole Quote so we can match the pole to your location and use case.
Do I need engineering or wind-load documentation?
For commercial sites, schools, municipalities, and coastal/windy exposure, engineering documentation is common. The right documentation depends on your jurisdiction and whether a permit is required.
Best move: submit a Flagpole Quote with your location, desired height, and site notes so we can guide you to the correct specs and paperwork.
Halyards, Trucks, Cleats, and Hardware
Internal halyard vs external halyard: what’s the difference?
External halyard uses an outdoor rope and cleat. It’s simple, classic, and easy to service. Internal halyard routes the rope inside the pole for a cleaner look and added security. Commercial sites often prefer internal halyard to reduce noise and tampering. See this detailed resource for more.
What is a revolving truck and why does it matter?
The truck is the top assembly that the flag attaches to. A revolving truck helps the flag rotate with the wind, reducing wrap and stress. It’s a small part with a big impact on how cleanly your flag flies.
Flags: Nylon vs Polyester and Made in USA
Nylon or polyester: which flag should I choose?
Nylon is lighter and flies beautifully in low-to-moderate wind. Polyester is tougher and holds up better in higher wind and daily use. If your location is exposed or you’re flying the flag constantly, polyester is often the smarter long-term choice. View the Complete Guide to Different Types of Flag Materials
Are your American flags made in the USA?
Yes. We focus on American-made flags. If you’re searching for an American flag made in America, you’ll find options built for real-world outdoor use.

Flagpole Lighting
Do I need a light for my flagpole?
If you plan to fly the flag at night, proper illumination is recommended. Many customers choose a solar disk light for simple installation, or hardwired lighting for permanent commercial sites.

Solar vs hardwired flagpole lights: which is better?
Solar is easiest and works well when the site gets good sun exposure. Hardwired is the “set it and forget it” option for commercial properties and shaded areas, with consistent brightness year-round.
Shipping, Lead Times, and Tracking
How long does it take to receive a flagpole?
Lead times depend on the specific product, finish, and current production schedules. Some items ship quickly, while certain commercial configurations and finishes may take longer. The product page is the best place to see current expectations.
If timing matters for a project, use the Flagpole Quote form and note your deadline.
Please review our Shipping Policy and Return Policy as well.
Will I get tracking information?
Yes. When your order ships, you’ll receive shipping confirmation and tracking when available. Large freight shipments can have different tracking behavior than small parcel shipments.
Returns, Cancellations, and Restocking Fees
Can I cancel my order?
Orders can often be canceled if they have not entered production or shipping. Because many flagpoles are built, prepped, or allocated after purchase, cancellation terms can vary by product type. If you purchase an anodized pole and it enters anodization or if your pole ships, it may be subject to our restocking fee. Please review our Shipping Policy and Return Policy.
Always review the return and cancellation policy shown during checkout and on our policy pages. If you need to cancel, contact support as soon as possible with your order number.
Why do some cancellations include a restocking fee?
For certain products, costs can be incurred once an order is processed, allocated, packaged, or prepared for shipment. A restocking fee helps cover those non-recoverable handling and processing costs. Our policies go into this further; as part of your order, you agree both explicitly and implicitly to these policies.
The exact terms depend on the product and order status. If you’re unsure, contact support with your order number.
Installation and Installer Network
Do you install flagpoles?
Liberty Flagpoles is primarily a retailer of American-made flags and flagpoles. For many customers, we can help connect you with an installer through our installer network depending on location and project type.
For installation help, submit a Flagpole Quote and include your city and state. We offer installation locally.
What information should I gather before getting an installation quote?
Helpful details include: installation address, desired pole height, soil type (if known), whether there are underground utilities, and whether a permit is required. Photos of the site are extremely helpful.
Government, Purchase Orders, W9, Tax Exempt
Can you provide a W9?
Yes, we can provide common procurement documents such as a W9 and other document requests when required for a purchase order. Send your request with the product(s), ship-to address, and purchasing contact info.
Do you accept purchase orders (POs)?
Many organizations purchase via PO. The best route is to request a formal quote with your ship-to address and any documentation requirements.

How do tax-exempt orders work?
If your organization is tax-exempt, provide the required exemption documentation for the ship-to state. Once verified, we can apply tax-exempt handling where applicable.
Maintenance and Troubleshooting
How do I maintain an aluminum flagpole?
Most aluminum poles need minimal maintenance. A periodic rinse and light cleaning keeps the finish looking sharp. Inspect moving parts occasionally (truck, snaps, rope condition) and replace worn components as needed. You can contact us for further information.
My flag keeps wrapping around the pole… what should I do?
Wrapping can happen in shifting winds, but the right setup helps: a quality revolving truck, properly spaced attachments, and an appropriate flag size for your wind exposure. In very windy areas, downsizing the flag can dramatically reduce wrap and wear. It is important to note that even tools meant to stop wrapping will not work 100% of the time.
